Austin-based Tecovas launched in 2015 as the first direct-to-consumer western brand: handmade-in-León boots without the western-store markup. It converted a generation of first-time boot buyers with approachable fits and straightforward pricing.
The Cartwright (men's) and The Annie (women's) are the canonical first cowboy boots: mid-height shafts, walkable heels, calfskin that breaks in fast. The Doc and The Wyatt bring roper and dress profiles; exotics like full-quill ostrich (The Emmitt) come in far below traditional exotic pricing. Everything is Goodyear-welted and resoleable.
Tecovas runs generous — most buyers go a half size down from sneaker size, and the brand says so plainly. Expect light heel slip at first that settles as the leather sole flexes. Their fit guidance is unusually honest; trust it.
The construction is legitimate: hand-lasted, Goodyear-welted, decent leathers. Heritage makers still win on ultra-premium leathers and custom lasts — at two to three times the price.
That's the design brief. The Cartwright's rounded toe and modest heel walk like a boot, not a costume — condition the leather occasionally and resole when needed.
