Founded in San Francisco in 2016 by a New Zealand footballer and a renewables engineer, Allbirds built its name on the Wool Runner — a machine-washable merino sneaker — and publishes the carbon footprint of every product it makes.
The Wool Runner and Wool Runner Mizzle (weatherized) are the flagship: soft, sock-like, worn barefoot by many. Tree models swap merino for eucalyptus-fiber knit that runs cooler in summer. The SweetFoam midsole — made with sugarcane green EVA — keeps the ride light and neutral. These are comfort-first everyday shoes, not performance trainers.
Machine washability is real: remove the insoles, cold gentle cycle, air dry. Merino uppers resist odor unusually well, which is why frequent flyers love them. Expect the cushioning to feel best in the first year of regular wear — they're priced and built as everyday comfort shoes rather than decade-long boots.
Wool for warmth and softness most of the year; Tree for hot climates and summer. The Mizzle versions add water repellency for wet commutes.
They run roomy — whole sizes only, and many wearers with half sizes go down. The knit stretches to accommodate.
Products are surfaced live from independent stores on Agora; prices and availability come from each store, and you check out securely on the merchant’s own site. Agora is not affiliated with or endorsed by Allbirds.
